Li Gen Report (李根)
Li Gen is a stude nt from Heze who, like many of his fellow stude nts from Heze Prefecture, does well in scienee subjects but is a little weak in English maybe because of his relatively weak foundation work. He is a hard-working student. But he got only 101 points in English in the final exam of the first semester. After the new term began, I asked him to my office and discussed and an alyzed his situati on. Our con versati on that day only lasted a few minu tes but I was impressed by his strong desire and determ in ati on to cha nge his situati on. I could see hopes from his earn est looks and desiri ng eyes. And so I gave him my advice that he should do more En glish exercises and do more read ing duri ng his spare time because I know readi ng is of great ben efit to En glish lear ners and especially to those who are a little weak because inten sive read ing will help them enl arge and con solidate their vocabulary. And vocabulary is one of the most decisive factors for all En glish learners. To a large exte nt, how many words you have mastered also means how well you have grasped your En glish. So my theory is to begi n with exte nsive and in ten sive readi ng and conq uer every stra nge word or phrase you come across duri ng your inten sive readi ng, and try to be able to tran slate what you are readi ng in to proper Chin ese. Practice makes perfect. Maybe several mon ths later youil find you are no Ion ger a weak En glish learner. I nstead youre now a success who has turned from a layman in English study into an expert that is admired by all your fellow stude nts.
Li gen did nt write his own article to report. Yet he tried to remember an in spiri ng article maybe from Li Yangs CRAZY ENGLISH, and he tried to speak it out in front of all the stude nts without referri ng to the no tes he was hold ing. Whas more, his speech was full of passi on and en ergy with proper and impressive gestures and facial expressi ons. He is the one in class 30 to
