Step 2 Grammar study
Learn the rules (7 minutes)
Ask all the students to think about two questions.
What is an attributive? What is the attributive clause?
An attribute is a word or phrase within a phrase that modifies the head word. It may be an adjective, noun, verb with its proper forms, prepositional phrase, or other parts of speech, such as a numeral.
The sentence that can modify a noun or pronoun in a compound sentence. A compound sentence has at least two independent causes that have related ideas.
Pair work(5 minutes)
Teacher asks students to discuss the following sentences and then analyze their component
1) The man who/that brought our textbooks here yesterday is in next room.
2) The magazine which/that he has taken away is mine.
3) The house whose (of which) roof needs repairing is only three years old.
4) I know the girl whose(of which) hair is yellow.
5) I still remember the day when I first met him.
3. Emphasis
In some cases, the relative word that can be only used.
Step 3 Practice
Ask the students to work in groups and have a competition to answer these questions.
1) The letter which/that I received yesterday is from my sister.
2) The man who/ that helped you yesterday is a teacher.
3) They rushed over to help the man whose/of which car had broke
