学生课前,课外学习活动设计
布置学生预习本课单词尤其是课文中出现的专有名词,尤其是一些读音教难的词汇。如 Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol, Scrooge, Jacob Marley… 这样的预习可以清理掉学生阅读时的绊脚石,是了解文章大意的一个铺垫。
本节课主要介绍圣诞节的文化内涵,虽说学生对圣诞节比较熟悉,但也要鼓励学生在课前通过网络信息或查阅相关书籍,杂志等大致的了解西方的各种节日文化,这样既可以拓展学生视野,又可以节省教师在课堂的处理时间,同时也便于学生理解阅读文本的内容,减轻了因背景文化积累不足所带来的学习压力。
本节课的作业布置为观看 A Christmas Carol 的英文电影,电影中对故事情节的介绍和发展更为详细丰富,所以通过本课文本的学习转为课后对文本内容视频和音频的学习,可谓再次巩固了所学内容,并要求学生写出观后报告于下次课上进行汇报,学生在讨论故事本身的同时也可以探讨自己对所学内容的理解,是个不可或缺的教学环节。
教师课堂教学活动设计
Warm up.
Ask students to say the festivals they have learned in this unit.
Lead in
Free talk about the Christmas they know and create a mind map about the date, symbols, activities and stories about Christmas. Introduce the short novel----A Christmas Carol
Skim
Ask students to guess “ Does Scrooge like or dislike Christmas?” Skim the whole passage and find the answer.
Read in detail
Why does Scrooge hate Christmas? What is Scrooge like? Read Paragraph 2 and fill in the blanks.
Scrooge saw the ghost of Jacob Marley. Read and find the answers of the four questions.
What does Scrooge see when he is with the three ghosts? Read Paragraph 3 and match the two columns.
Has Scrooge changed? Read Paragraph 4 and fill in the blanks.
What’s the spirit of Christmas?
Retell the passage according to the pictures
Talk about Spring Festival and write a passage about it.
Homework
Watch the movie A Christmas Carol and make a report next class.

I. Brainstorm
Say the festivals they know as many as they can
II. Group work
Talk about Christmas and create a mind map to think about the date, the symbols, the activities and stories about Christmas.
III. Skim
Look at the picture of Scrooge, guess if he likes or dislikes Christmas. Read the whole passage and try to find the answer.
IV. Read in detail
Think about two questions. Why does Scrooge hate Christmas? What is Scrooge like? Read Paragraph 2 and fill in the blanks.
