To the Lighthouse is one of her masterpieces. The value of this novel lies not only in the death theme expressed in it, which is widely acknowledged, but also in Woolf’s meditation on the relation between life and death. Combining the historical background with Woolf’s individual experience, this paper holds that in this novel, Woolf conveys the death theme in terms of time and space,and also shows her detached attitude toward death and her peculiar insight into life.
