Overflow and Drains Design Guide ii KS-PR-DEG-0205 Rev 0 01 December 2019 1. Introduction Gravity drainage systems occur frequently on chemical plants. Typical examples are: 1. The condensate off-take from a condenser; 2. The liquid off-take from the base of an absorption column; 3. The emergency overflow from an atmospheric pressure storage tank. Gas entrained in a liquid flowing by gravity from a vessel will reduce the volume of liquid flowing through the pipe and could cause surging flows. The following guide provides an initial conservative estimate for designing this type of system. It is intended that this guide be used, until detailed process design/review of any system is undertaken. 2. Scope This guide describes the problems which are associated wi
