ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF2059;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.
Scope
Thistestmethodcoverstheproceduretodeterminetheeffectivenessofoilspilldispersantsonvariousoilsinthelaboratory.Thistestmethodisnotapplicabletootherchemicalagentsnortotheuseofsuchproductsordispersantsinopenwaters.
Thistestmethodcoverstheuseoftheswirlingflasktestapparatusanddoesnotcoverotherapparatusesnoraretheanalyticalproceduresdescribedinthisreportdirectlyappli-cabletosuchprocedures.
Thetestresultsobtainedusingthistestmethodareintendedtoprovidebaselineeffectivenessvaluesusedtocomparedispersantsandoiltypesunderconditionsanalogoustothoseusedinthetest.
Thetestresultsobtainedusingthistestmethodareeffectivenessvaluesthatshouldbecitedastestvaluesderivedfromthisstandardtest.Dispersanteffectivenessvaluesdonotdirectlyrelatetoeffectivenessatseaorinotherapparatuses.Actualeffectivenessatseaisdependantonseaenergy,oilstate,temperature,salinity,actualdispersantdosage,andamountofdispersantthatenterstheoil.
Thedecisiontouseornotuseadispersantonanoilshouldnotbebasedsolelyonthisoranyotherlaboratorytest
