Sand and dust storms and respiratory diseases on the relationship between the number of admissions
[Abstract] Objective To study the sand and dust storms and respiratory diseases on the relationship between the number of admissions. Methods of time series of semi-parametric generalized additive model (GAM), after controlling for long-term trends, calendar effects and weather factors such as the effect of confounding factors, analysis of dust weather from 1994 to 2003 the number admitted to hospital with respiratory Japan relations, the establishment of gender-stratified according to different models (lag 7d). Results (1) respiratory diseases on the overall relative risk of hospitalization (RR) and upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) on admission RR, lagging behind in the sand and dust weather in the first 3d differences were statistically significant, RR, respectively 1 14 ( 95% CI = 1 02 ~ 1 27), 1 16 (95% CI = 1 00 ~ 1 36); (2) in the stratified analysis, the sand and dust weather in the first 3d lag of total respiratory system diseases hospitalized a few days for males and females are affected, RR, respectively 1 14 (95% CI = 1 01 ~ 1 29), 1 18 (95% CI = 1 00 ~ 1 41), and only URTI and pneumonia hospital admissions for men day statistically significant difference, RR, respectively 1 28 (95% CI = 1 04 ~ 1 59), 1 17 (95% CI = 1 00 ~ 1 38) . Conclusion dust on weather and respiratory hospital admissions linked to, and both showed the delayed impact, while the male population the incidence of URTI and pneumonia than women and is more closely associated dust weather.
