Propolisis abee-collected naturalproduct andhasbeen proven to havevarious bioactivities. This study tested thee?ects of ChinesepropolisandBrazilianpropolisonstreptozotocin-inducedtype1diabetesmellitusinSprague-Dawleyrats.Theresults showedthatChinesepropolisandBrazilianpropolissigni?cantlyinhibitedbodyweightlossandbloodglucoseincreaseindiabetic rats.Inaddition,Chinesepropolis-treatedratsshowedan8.4%reductionofglycatedhemoglobinlevelscomparedwithuntreated diabeticrats.MeasurementofbloodlipidmetabolismshoweddyslipidemiaindiabeticratsandChinesepropolishelpedtoreduce totalcholesterollevelby16.6%.Moreover,oxidativestressinblood,liverandkidneywasimprovedtovariousdegreesbyboth ChinesepropolisandBrazilianpropolis.Anapparentreductioninlevelsofalaninetransaminase,aspartatetransaminase,blood ureanitrogenandurinemicroalbuminuria-excretionratedemonstratedthebene?ciale?ectsofpropolisinhepatorenalfunction.
