The internal parameter of UNI 60 rail is calculated by using ?nite elements methods. Steel’s characterizations by its normal
magnetizationcurveandbycomplexmagneticpermeabilityarehereconsideredandincludedintotheproposedFEMmodels.
Rail’sresistanceandinternalinductanceinfunctionofcurrentandfrequencyarecalculatedusingbothFEMandanalyticalmodels.
Theresultsobtainedatthefrequencyof50Hzarecomparedwithfewmeasurementsavailable,andthentheyareextendedtoother
frequencies.

1.Introduction

thesimulationoftherailwayelectricsystemrequiresarail
largesignalmodel.
TherailwayelectricsystemisusuallymodeledbyaMulticon-
ductorTransmissionLine(MTL)[1].Thecharacterization
of this model by the de?nition of the resistance, induc-
tance,capacitance,andconductanceperunitlength(p.u.l.)
matrices
