These damping materials have viscoelastic characteristicsandareusedbyautomotiveandotherindustries.Testingofthesematerialsisimportantinordertopredicttheir performanceandtraditionallythedampingpropertiesaremeasuredbytheOberstmethod.Thispaperdiscussesanalternate methodcalledtheCenterImpedancemethodwhereforceandresponsearemeasureddirectlyandthedampingpropertiesare obtained.TheCenterImpedancemethodiseasytouserequiringonlystandardvibrationequipmentforexcitation,namely,shaker, andiseasytocontroltheexperimentforrepeatability.ResultsofbeamstestedbybothOberstandCenterImpedancemethodsare presentedinordertovalidatethistestmethod.
