Here we describe a novel theoretical model, which uses Monte Carlo dynamics to simulate and explain multicellular development. The model capturesmultiplebehavioursobservedduringfruiting,includingthespontaneousformationofaggregationcentresandthe formationanddissolutionoffruitingbodies.Weshowthatasmallnumberofphysicalpropertiesinthemodelissufficient to explain the most frequently documented population-level behaviours observed during development in Myxococcus xanthus.
