The grape was assumed as a sph盯ical homogeneou5 , isotropic elastìc membrane , whích was fully-filled with ìncompressible , high viscous liquid. The stress distribution and de.formation of grape under compression load by two , rigid plates were studied. The equilibrìum E! quations for contacted regions ànd non-contacted regions were obtâÎn~d by using the theories of memhrane. The boundary cond比ions and còntinu~ ity conditions for the solution of the differential equations were determined. The tensLon of grape skin under compre国siún load was analy盹d numerically , using Runge-Kutta iteratìon method. The re翻 ults indk:ate that the stress in circumference îs greater than that in the rneridian direction. The failure of grape under comprcssïve load w幽 mainly caused by the maxim.al stretch stress which occurred at the 叫uator. The results are consistent with the previous experimentnl observation !l.
