by language and cultural obstructions. Chapter four points out the characteristics of metaphors in Fortress Besieged. Being highly original and merging with other rhetorical devices, these metaphors convey rich cultural connotation, and present a style of humor and sarcasm. Chapter five researches translation strategies of metaphors in Fortress Besieged, involving literal translation, literal translation plus explanation, literal translation plus notes, converting vehicle, free translation and deletion. According to statistics, we analyze and judge the effects of them. Chapter six is the conclusion of the thesis.
