Another 408 subjects (3 percent) were excluded because information on the covariates used in the multivariable analyses detailed below was incomplete. optimal (systolic pressure of less than 120 mm Hg and diastolic pressure of less than 80 mm Hg), normal (systolic pressure of 120 to 129 mm Hg or diastolic pressure of 80 to 84 mm Hg), or highnormal (systolic pressure of 130 to 139 mm Hg or diastolic pressure of 85 to 89 mm Hg).
