Dam stability temperature is lower due to annual average temperature is lower in cold areas. Larger basic temperature difference can easily lead to penetrating cracks on foundation. Large temperature variation, temperature difference between day and night and frequently cold waves can easily cause cracks in concrete surface. Condition of dam construction in cold area is different from moderate region, and construction period of dam concrete in cold area is generally from March to November, and stop construction from December to next February. This construction mode of long intermittent in winter cause larger stress concentration in the wintering on the level and the lower surface of concrete dam. Because of large temperature difference between inside and outside, upstream and downstream surface and the top middle part of winter stop pouring surface easily lead to greater horizontal tensile stress. While larger temperature difference of upper and lower makes dam easily occur cracks along the horizontal joints of construction in the wintering on the level. Cold area generally requires permanent thermal insulation, and the role of insulation boards makes the surface temperature higher than that the outside. Obviously, it is unnecessary to control the maximum temperature of concrete according to outside temperatures plus temperature difference between inside and outside calculate the allowed maximum temperature. Based on the above issues, this paper has studied on crack control measures of temperature control of RCC dam in cold area and main areas of research are as follows: Based on ANSYS platform, developed APDL program of three dimensional temperature field and simulation analysis of creep stress field of massive concrete, and importantly considerate in the cooling water pipe, calculation method of surface insulation
