The university in America begins later than that in Europe, but it develops at a tremendous speed. Drawing on the foreign education thought and melding the native characteristics, American higher education and the competitiveness of its universities have outpaced in the world for over a century. The major features of higher education, in its essence, is constituted by diversified forms, thoughts and methods, which include the liberal arts college focused by all walks of life in the higher educational system. Nowadays, the transformation is a challenge to the development of the higher education in China. It’s a direction that many researchers strive together to strengthen the competitiveness of the undergraduate education in our country by drawing on the experience of foreign country which is especially offered for us by the development of the American liberal arts college. This paper studied the core competitiveness based on the research on the liberal arts college, macroscopically anglicizing the historical reform and present situation of American Liberal Arts College. This paper consists of six parts. The first chapter introduces the research background, research status, significance and purpose of research ideas and methods as well as the original novelty.
