Abstract
In the field of contemporary Chinese history, Lei Haizong has always been a historian that hasnt get a comprehensive essessment. Leis academic integrity, political position and his view of the history are been doubted in a long time. And the public even know nothing about this man in history field.
I have the privilege of reading his works and get an idea about his thought of history and want to make a general disertation in this article. In the Forties, the state was facing the danger of extinction under the aggression of Japanese. Chinese traditional culture has also been the erosion of culture in Europe and America. At this critical moment he draw on the concept of Western History and tried to re-structured the Chinese culture, hoping to find a way of regeneration for Chinese culture. He believed that only in this way he can enhance the confidence of the people, and arouse the hope of the nation. But because his radical expression and the emphrasize of“War”and“Power”, his theory was defined as doctrine of fascism. But the author of this article want to improve that Leis theory is not fascism but the Nationalist historians and his advocating at that time is the embodiment of patriotism.
Lei Haizong faced the fierce collision between Chinese and Western cultures, researched the traditional Chinese historical theory and modern bourgeois historiography, added fresh blood to history filed and showing new spirit of the times. All of these are the unique contribution of Lei that can not be ignored.
