四. Teaching Steps
Step 1: Lead-in
By being asked” What can we do with 100/10/1 yuan?”, students can be aware of the value of money. From 100 yuan to 1 yuan, students can know we can buy a few things with so little money. However, I have bought a newspaper with 1 yuan. With this thing, ask students to think another question, which is very important to this class — Are newspapers worth buying?
Step 2: Reading
Task1:Since the passage is short and easy, I don’t choose to use fast reading and careful reading to deal with the text, instead, I show students all four questions about this text.
1. Key words in each paragraph
2. Two types of newspapers and their features
3. Examples of the two kinds of newspapers
4. A feature of the newspapers in the US
Task2: After the text learning, students can get a clear outline of this text. I picked out several phrases to help students to retell this passage.
Task3: Till now, students can have a good understanding of newspapers. Ask them again, “Are newspapers worth buying?” With the help of the text understanding and another short passage in Chinese, students can easily understand the value of newspapers, which is an important part of this class. “To buy, or not to buy?--That is no question!”。
