Teaching aims:
1.Key words and structures: stress,waste,in order to, provide, depend on, fairness……/ There is no need to……/ The earlier…,the better… ……
2.Be able to get the main idea of the story and use reading strategies to finish the reading tasks.
3.Be able to understand the importance of caring for families and sharing the housework at home.
二、Teaching process:
Step1 Lead-in
Review the chores learned before by pictures.
Question: should children do chores at home?
(设计意图:利用图片和问题导入,开门见山地从学生生活实际出发,调动学生的积极性,激发学生的阅读兴趣和参与活动的意识。)
Step2 Fast-reading
The Sunday Mail magazine invited parents to write about whether they think young people should do chores at home. Skim the following letters. Which one agrees and which one disagrees?
(设计意图:掌握“Skimming”的阅读策略,快速阅读文章的开头和结尾获取大意)
Step3 Careful-reading
Ask students to read Ms. Miller’s letter and find out why she doesn’t think children should do chores?(Finish the mind map)
Ask students to read Mr. Smith’s letter and find out why he thinks doing chores is important for children? (Finish the mind map)
Make a summary of the pros and cons about kids doing chores.
Let students read the two letters aloud and listen to the recording.
(设计意图:阅读全文,利用思维导图找寻、筛选、判断、归纳两者对待孩子做家务的不同观点)
Step4 Discussion
Work in group and discuss “Should we help to do chores at home?”
(设计意图:让学生先在组内自由讨论,然后表达自己的观点。这是为了训练学生根据所学内容进行输出的能力。这种输出活动,必须建立在小组充分讨论的基础之上,学生才会有话可说。)
Step5 Debate
Topic: Should we do chores at home?
Positive side: We should do chores at home.
Negative side: We should not do chores at home.
(设计意图:辩论赛一方面可以培养辩论者的口头表达能力、思辨能力,另一方面其他学生通过观看辩论可以培养听说表达能力。)
Step6 Fun time Teachers’ words
Let students enjoy a short video about doing chores. Then share teacher’s opinion with students and encourage them to help out with chores.
(设计意图:利用短视频“happy working song”寓教于乐,让学生了解做家务也可以是一种乐趣;另外通过分享自己的观点对学生进行德育渗透。)
