Unit 2 Medical Humanistic Care;?;Text A: A Sleep Disorder ;01;?;;Is There a Right to Die? On March 17, a public health committee of the Connecticut State Senate met to discuss a bill that would allow terminally ill adult patients to bring about their own deaths. Legislators have tried to pass a law in Connecticut to support aid in dying since the late 1990s. If this most recent proposal passes and is signed into law, these patients would be able to submit two written requests to a doctor and signed in front of two witnesses to get treatment. Oregon was the first state to legalize assisted suicide in 1994. Three other states have laws that enable terminally ill patients to seek help in dying. Vermont passed its “End of Life Choices” bill through the legislature in 2013, allowing terminally ill patients to receive fatal prescription medications. Prior to Vermont, Washington passed a similar measure in 2008. Like Oregon, Washington used a popular ballot to enact the controversial policy.; ; ; How to deal with end-of-life issues has always been a tough topic for terminally ill patients and their families. If families had conversations about the life and death with the terminally ill patients in advance, no disagreement would arise on how to treat them and they would die on their own wish with dignity. Talking openly about death can be a road map for the rest of your life and an essential part of creating peace of mind for families. Humanistic care for the terminally ill patients may not be to give them treatment, but to give them dignity, the right to know and the right to make decisions. ;?;Bill [b?l] n. 议案;法案 terminally [?t?:m?n?l?] ad.
