She spends ten years to finish the great works. It has great effect on the world when being published. It also has been translated over forty languages and has been sold in many countries all over the world.Margaret Mitchell vividly reflected the disappearance of the big farm and the decline of noble family in South during the Civil War by her female exquisite characteristics, correctly mastered the complex psychological activity of youth in process of pursuing love, and successfully made a typical and complex figure?-Scarlett. She was not only giddy, lusty and brave but also obstinate, vain and willful. Especially, she had the spirit, which was not controlled by the failure and difficulty outside. On one side, because she was the daughter of the big farm and didn’t want her father’s career decayed, she tried her best to make it go on. On the other side, she quickly adapted to the new trend after the Civil War, bravely pursued her lover though the act might be wrong, and boldly earned money even though the act may not be accepted by many people at that time. Sometimes you can understand her but sometimes you would be confused about her. No matter how you appraise her, you will always feel that she was very real. That was the greatest achievement of the works.Scarlett was young and beautiful but sometimes what she did showed that she was cruel, selfish, and greedy for love, for families, and for the red clay she deeply loved. She also took marriage as a deal. The novel was filled with romantic conceiving, proficient way to reveal the reality, exquisite and vivid portrait of figure, scene and language, and individual dialogue, which made the whole works have a unique status in the history of American novel.II.
