Abstract: This paper introduces and analyses the major achievements of Chinese scholars in pragmatics studies, including the
fields of cross-cultural communication, comparison betw een English and Chinese, context and pragmatic meaning, pragmatic trans-
lation and pragmatic theory . In the future we should form new schools of our own by combining the study of foreign languages wit h
Chinese.
