Storytellers Activity Bank Warmers Circle QAs Sit with the learners in a circle. Ask a question of the student next to you, prompting her to respond. Then have her ask the student next to her that question, passing the QA chain around the circle. Can also do with an object to be passed. Can also randomize by passing a ball across the circle to ask/answer questions. Line QAs Line the learners up and pass a QA chain down the line as in the Circle QA activity. Can try to pass as quickly as possible for best times. Can split into 2 lines and have the teams race each other by passing the QA down their line as quickly as possible. Mingle QAs Count 1,2,3 and have students walk around the room in random patterns. When you say “stop!” the students stop and pair up, asking a question of the student they are closest to. Hot Seat Seat one learner at the head of the class, and encourage all learners to raise their hands to ask her a question. Try to get a variety of questions and reward students who can ask questions relating to the target language. Intro/Review Using simplified language, explain that the class will be learning about (TL) and telling a story with song and action today. Explain with your TA the goals for output, what will be learned. Opportunities to have students lead this segment, first with the Little Teacher, then with other students, is desirable. Flashcards can be used as placeholders for students who want to perform the story for the class. Show and tell can be a fun way for students to show toys they may have related to the story.
