Gonzaga University 2-Year and 5-Year Alumni Survey Summary Report

Purpose and Methods
The purpose of this study was to assess Gonzaga University’s alumni’s perception of Gonzaga, their academic experience, civic engagement, and their overall experience at Gonzaga. The instrument examined alumni’s overall experience with Gonzaga while they were students as well as their experiences since graduation.
This instrument, a web-based questionnaire of 35 questions, was developed as a joint effort by Daniel Bubb, Michael Herzog, Patricia Terry, Mary Heitkemper, and Jennifer Klein at Gonzaga University. The data gained from this study were intended to inform decisions in several areas on campus for improving alumni relations, marketing to prospective students, and improving services and programs for students.
Participants
For this study, 1520 Gonzaga alumni who graduated in 2003 or 2006 were invited to participate via email with a link to the survey website in Fall 2008. Graduates from 2003 were selected because they would have had time to find employment and/or pursue graduate school since graduating. Furthermore, graduates of 2006 were selected because they would not be too far removed from their college experience. The two graduation years were selected to provide a more comprehensive view of the recent graduate experience.
The participants were asked to complete an online questionnaire via e-mail. A follow-up paper mailing was also sent to increase response rate. The number of alumni who started the survey was 343, and 322 completed the survey. The total response rate was 22%. Of the alumni who participated, approximately 29% (n=99) graduated in 2003 and 71% graduated in 2006 (n=244).
Participants were asked to identify their major and their department. The range of majors and departments was broad. The most represented majors were Business Administration at 17% (n=57), Psychology at 7% (n=24), and Civi
