Antimicrobialbacterialcellulose-silvernanoparticlescompositemembraneshavebeenobtainedby“insitu”preparationofAg nanoparticlesfromhydrolyticdecompositionofsilvernitratesolutionusingtriethanolamineasreducingandcomplexingagent. TheformationofsilvernanoparticleswasevidencedbytheX-raydi?raction,scanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM),transmission electronmicroscopy(TEM),andabsorptionintheUV-Visible(350nmto600nm).Thermalandmechanicalpropertiestogether withswellingbehaviorforwaterwereconsidered.TEAconcentrationwasobservedtobeimportantinordertoobtainonlyAg particlesandnotamixtureofsilveroxides.Itwasalsoobservedtocontrolparticlesizeandamountofsilvercontentsinbacterial cellulose.ThecompositemembranesexhibitedstrongantimicrobialactivityagainstGram-negativeandGram-positivebacteria. 1.Introduction (of 70 to 80%), high water content to 99%, and high mechanicalstability[3].
