Autismspectrumdisorders(ASDs)areneurobehavioraldisorderscharacterizedbyabnormalitiesinthreebehavioraldomains includingsocialinteraction,impairedcommunication,andrepetitivestereotypicbehaviors.ASDa?ectsapproximately1%of childrenandisontherisewithsigni?cantgeneticmechanismsunderlyingthesedisorders.Wereviewthecurrentunderstanding oftheroleofgeneticandmetabolicfactorscontributingtoASDwiththeuseofnewgenetictechnology.Fiftypercentisdiagnosed withchromosomalabnormalities,smallDNAdeletions/duplications,single-geneconditions,ormetabolicdisturbances.Genetic evaluationisdiscussedalongwithpsychiatrictreatmentandapproachesforselectionofmedicationtotreatassociatedchallenging behaviorsorcomorbiditiesseeninASD.Weemphasizetheimportanceofprioritizingtreatmentbasedontargetsymptomclusters andinwhatorderforindividualswithASD,asthetreatmentmayvaryfrompatienttopatient. 1.Introduction presentation [7–9].
