Thispaperreportsongroundedtheory?ndingsthatarerelevanttopromotingthementalhealthandwell-beingofimmigrant women in Canada. The ?ndings illustrate how relationships among settlement factors and dynamics of empowerment had implicationsfor“becomingresilient”asimmigrantwomenandhowvarioushealthpromotionapproachesenhancedtheirwell- being.Dimensionsofempowermentwereembeddedinthecontentandprocessofthefeministhealthpromotionapproachusedin thisstudy.FourfocusgroupswerecompletedinToronto,Ontario,Canadawith35racializedimmigrantwomenwhorepresented diversecountriesoforigin:25werefromAfrica;otherswereequallyrepresentedfromSouthAsia(5),Asia(5),andCentralorSouth AmericaandtheCaribbean(5).Participantsrepresenteddiverselanguages,familydynamics,andeducationalbackgrounds.One focusgroupwasconductedinSomali;threewereconductedinEnglish.Constructivistgroundedtheory,theoreticalsampling,and acriticalfeministapproachwerechosentobecongruentwithhealthpromotionresearchthatfosteredwomen’sempowerment.
