Since then, intensive studies have been carried out in this field and accumulating evi- dence of this naturally occurring process has emerged from lower organisms as well as from mammalian tissues; this evidence will shed light on the basic mechanism underlying regeneration and aid in conceiving new strat- egies in regenerative medicine.
