Anthracyclines are commonly used to treat childhood leukemias and lymphomas, as well as other malignancies, leading to agrowingpopulationoflong-termchildhoodcancersurvivors.However,theiruseislimitedbycardiotoxicity,increasingsurvivors’ vulnerabilitytotreatment-relatedcomplicationsthatcanmarkedlya?ecttheirqualityoflife.Survivorsaremorelikelytosu?er from heart failure, coronary artery disease, and cerebrovascular accidents compared to the general population. The speci?c mechanismsofanthracyclinecardiotoxicityarecomplexandremainunclear.Hence,determiningthefactorsthatmayincrease susceptibilitytocardiotoxicityisofgreatimportance,asismonitoringpatientsduringandaftertreatment.Additionally,treatment andpreventionoptions,suchaslimitingcumulativedosage,liposomalanthracyclines,anddexrazoxane,continuetobeexplored.
