Enterovirus71(EV71)hasinducedfatalencephalitisinhundredsofthousandsofinfantsandyoungchildrenintheAsia-Paci?c regionsincethepastdecade.LymphocyteandantibodyresponseshavebeensuspectedtoaggravateEV71-inducedneurological symptoms,soanti-in?ammatoryagentshavebeenusedtotreatpatientswithneurologicalsymptoms.Inthepresentstudy,we foundthatmicede?cientinCD4 highlysusceptibletoviralinfection.CompensationofCD4T-cellfunctionbyotherimmunecellswasnotlikely,becausewild-type micedepletedofCD4 Tcellswerealsoresistanttoviralinfection.InfectedCD4T-cell-de?cientmiceproducedvirus-speci?c + TcellswereresistanttoEV71infectionaswild-typemice,whereasmicede?cientinBcellswere + neutralizingantibodies,IgMandIgG.Moreover,adoptivetransferofthevirus-speci?
