Potentialimplicationsaredecreasedpower,increasedstandarderror,andnon-responsebias.Theobjectiveofthis studywastoassessthefactorsassociatedwithparticipationinawrittensurvey(MSHS)ofsubjectswhohad previouslyparticipatedintheSwissHealthSurvey(SHS)andtoevaluatetowhatextentnon-participationcould impacttheestimationofvariousMSHShealthoutcomes. Methods:MultivariatelogisticregressionwasusedtoassessthefactorsassociatedwithMSHSparticipation (n=14,393)byeligibleSHSparticipants(n=17,931).Crudeparticipationratesandtheadjustedoddsratiosof participation(OR)werereported.InordertoreportpotentialbiasinMSHSoutcomes,theaverageage-standardized andsex-specificoutcomevaluesinnon-participantswerepredictedbasedonseveraldifferentlinearregression modelswhichhadbeenpreviouslyfittedonMSHSparticipants. Results:Adjustingforallothervariables,women(OR=1.63)ascomparedwithmen,subjectswithasecondary (OR=1.48)ortertiaryeducation(OR=1.76)ascomparedwiththosewithprimaryeducation,white-collarworkers (highlevelnon-manualworkersOR=1.29,mediumandlowlevelnon-manualworkersOR=1.26andOR=1.25 respectively)ascomparedwithunskilledmanualworkers,Swissnationals(OR=1.60)ascomparedtonon-Swiss,and subjectswithverygoodorgoodself-ratedhealth(OR=1.35)weremorelikelytoparticipateintheMSHS.People whoworkfull-timewerelesslikelytoparticipatethanthosewithoutpaidwork(OR=0.76).Therewereno statisticallysignificantdifferencesinthelikelihoodofparticipationbetweenruralandurbanareas,different geographicregionsofSwitzerlandandhouseholdincomequartiles. Exceptformyocardialinfarction,allage-standardizedandsex-specificaverageoutcomes(influenzavaccination, arthrosis,osteoporosis,highbloodpressure,depression,mastery,andsenseofcoherence)weresignificantly differentbetweenMSHSnon-p
