Research across various contexts has demon- strated environmental j ustice theorists ambivalence towards econom- ics. Despite the fact that a mounting number of theorists recognize that economics can provide a significant contribution to the theory, there have been very few attempts to synthesize the work already achieved and to pose future research questions. In response, the goal of this paper is to present a coherent framework within which we re- view the maj or contributions of environmental economics to environ- mental j ustice. We advocate that economic approaches have played a maj or role in the achievement of environmental j ustice; and will con- tinue to do so. What we urge
