2007年12月 武警工程学院学报 Dec．2oo7 第23卷 JOURNALOFENGGOOLLEGEOFARMEDPOLICEFORCE V．01．23 【外语研究】 中英成语的相似与区别 陈 洁 (武警北京指挥学院训练部，北京100012) 【摘 要】 英语成语和汉语谚语在各自的语言中都起着重要作用，他们既是文化的反映，又受文化的影 响。如果不理解文化，就很难理解这些带有浓重文化色彩的成语。英语成语和汉语谚语的相同之处和不同 之处学员必须明了。 【关键词】英语成语；汉语；谚语；相似性；不同 AIthough the relation between language and culture is variable，people never stop exploring the fascinating relationship between them．According to sociologists and anthropologists，culture is defined as the total pattern of beliefs，customs，institutions，objects and techniques that characterize the life of human society、Language is a combination of phonemes and meanings mostly acquired in a society for human’s communication．Besides， each l~guage is usually viewed as a mirror that reflects every aspects of its culture．So learning a foreign lan— guage well means more than merely mastering the pronunciation，grammar and word，it also means learning its culture，for the simple reason that language is a vehicle of the culture． Idioms，proverbs and sayings are important parts of the language and culture in a society．They are short sayings of folk wisdom created by people from all walks of life，and they are succinctly expressed，which makes them easy to remember． Despite the different culture backgrounds，we are surprised to find that human’s experiences and observa— tions of the world are strikingly similar to each other．They create sayings，idioms ，and colloquialisms by differ— ent language tools but eventually are equivalent or close approximates．We can cite many examples to illustrate this point： As you soW，so will you reap． 种瓜得瓜，种豆得豆。 价值。 建设贡献力量。 在新的历史条件下，加强队列训练对保持我军 优良传统和培育战斗精神起着决定性作用。我军建 参考文献：
