徘徊在现实与意象之间 　　 　　As a Chinese artist living in the U.S and active in international art exhibits, Shang xuhong is one of the few overseas Chinese artists who devotes himself in the research and artistic practice of combing conceptual art, minimalism and abstraction all in one. He works calmly and quietly. His works obviously attempt to build a new visual approach and order between tradition and modernity, image and reality. 　　 The installation works created by Shang xuhong express many contradictions and conflicts between image and reality. Very often he employs the whole exhibit space to create a feel of natural scenery, or a yard, with sky images on the corners of the walls around, and he would invite the audience to step on the stage specially made by him for a better view; or he would install a simple shelf on the walls of the exhibit place with the height just meeting the eyesight of people and he would place various small articles such as small scenery pictures and architectural miniatures so that the audience may have a feel of boundless natural space. However, at the same time, he is also telling people that This may not just be landscape and yard. 　　 The profound thoughts over Chinese and western cultural experiences seen in Shang xuhongs works, along with the changing, unpredictable power they reveal, have an astounding effect on the audience, meanwhile, the mystic atmosphere they create bring the audiences vision and feeling to further depth.
