AbstractAsarenewableenergysource,biomassenergyhaslargereservesandlittlepollutionandCO2emissionareproducedintheuseofbiomass.Usingbiomassinlarge-scalewillhelpalleviatetheenergyshortage,environmentalpollutionandgreenhousegasemissionsissuesnowadays.However,duetothehighcontentofalkalimetalinbiomass,theuseofbiomassinthecombustionprocesscaneasilycausesevereashdepositionandcorrosionproblems.Therefore,researchonthetransformationanddepositionofalkalimetalinbiomasscombustionisofimportancetosolvetheashdepositionandcorrosionproblemsinbiomassboilersandenlargethescaleofbiomassutilization.Inthispaper,theGibbsfreeenergycriterionwasusedtoanalyzethepossiblereactionsofalkalispeciesinbiomasscombustionandthetransformationpathwaysofalkalimetalwasdiscussed.Inaddition,thebehaviorofalkalimetalshavebeenpredictedbythermodynamicequilibriumcalculationsbasedonGibbsfreeenergyminimizationmodel.Theresultsshowthatwhentemperatureisbelow600°C,alkalimetalsareinsolidspecies,suchasK2O?2SiO2,KCl,K2SO4,Na2CO3,Na2SO4,Na2SiO3,etc.Whentemperatureisabove600°C,alkalispeciesappearingasphraseintheformofalkalichloride.Above1000°C,alkalihydroxidemayalsoappearingasphrase.TheeffectofCl、S、Si、Alonthebehaviorofalkalimetalsinbiomasscombustionwasalsoinvestigatedbythermodynamicequilibriumcalculations.ItshowsthatClcanpromotethereleaseofalkalimetalswhileS,Si,Alprobablyinhibitthereleaseofalkalimetals.TheoptimalS/(K+Na)molarratioisabout1andoptimalAl/(K+Na)molarratioisapproximatelyequalto1.5.AlthoughtheadditionalSicanreducethevolatilizationofalkalimetals,theamountofsilicatewithlowmeltingpointwillalsoincrease.Thus,Sihaslittleeffectonthealleviatingashdepositionproblem.Ashsamplestakenfromhighandlowtemperaturesuperheatersofastrawboilerwasanalyzedcombinedwiththeresultsofthethermodynamiccalculations.TheresultsshowthatthemainreasonofashdepositiononsuperheatersoftheboileristhatgaseousalkalispeciescondenseonsuperheatertubesandabsorbSO2influegas.Bycomparingtheashsamplesfromhighandlowtemperaturesuperheaters,itisfoundthatthesulfationofalkal
