II II Abstract This thesis is to make a research into the lexis included in Shengshuiyantanlu, which involving three classes’ contents, missed words and their items, unspecific explanations, still the late literary examples, all which are in order to improve The Great Chinese Dictionary. My thesis consists of the following parts: The first chapter chiefly tells of the relationship of Wang Pizhi’s life and his creation of this book; tells of the content and edition, the research fruits at present, and my methods of study. The second chapter, we research the vocabulary of Shengshuiyantanlu in the sense of revising of The Great Chinese Dictionary, finding many words are missed which should be embodied. These words reveal the true life and condition of that time, helping us to know the rich culture of Song dynasty and improving the Chinese vocabulary system. The third chapter, while analyzing the lexes in the book, we discover some words are short of items which did not cover all the meanings in practical application. This does not satisfy the comprehensiveness of summarizing the term meaning, which should be made up; in the other hand, some items which are not paraphrased accurately in The Great Chinese Dictionary and do not reflect the objective language fact, we ought to make them more perfect. The fourth chapter，some first lingual example of The Great Chinese Dictionary are cited too late ,we collect the materials and do a textual research, finding some earlier cases , which is supposed to be supplemented. The fifth chapter, the value and shortcoming of the dissertation , Shengshuiyantanlu is valuable in the study of glossary, otherwise ,little production have come out, that is why we choose this book. Moreover，I have made a elementary research in the vocabulary of this book, which is so far from profundity, I have to work harder in the future.
