ABSTRACTPublic ABSTRACT Public rest space is the site where people rest．It is an important part of the city where people live．Based on the behavior of people，the paper probes into public rest space．Rest space is not only made up of substance elements,but also decided by the sensibility of people and a lot of culture elements．The paper analyzes rest space roundly through the behavior and psychology of people．It studies 0n the whole design of public rest space by applying modem environment design methods．The paper clarifies how to create comfort and humanistic rest space in cities through the comprehensive and systemic treatise．It reinforces the theories about public space recently． There are five chapters in this paper． In the first chapter,the paper sets forth the concept and function about public rest space，and analyzes the characteristics，main problems and deep-seated reasons of public rest space． In the second chapter，the paper expounds the relationship between people and space，and expatiates rest space according to the behavior characters ofpeople in space． In the third chapter，the paper sums up technical guidance about the design of rest space through practical local investigation and analysis,and it also expatiates how to locate rest space much more reasonably by programming contr01． The fourth chapter discusses the design principles and traits ofgood rest space first， and then it probes into how to create comfortable，graceful and humanistic rest lieu and make it become the indispensable part in public space by the whole design In the fifth ch印ter,the paper treats concretely the design of artificial installations and natural sights in rest environments．It mainly expounds the design of seat and proceeds whole analysis about other factors synchronously in order to make the design rest space much more perfect in the microcosmic details． Key words：rest space publicity behavior analyzing humanistic whole design 独创性声明本人声明所呈交的学位论文是本人在导师指导下进行的研究工作和取得的 独创性声明
