Celltherapieshavegainedincreasinginterestanddevelopedinseveralapproachesrelatedtothetreatmentofdamagedmyo- cardium.Theresultsofmultipleclinicaltrialshavealreadybeenreported,almostexclusivelyinvolvingthedirectinjectionofstem cells.Ithas,however,beenpostulatedthatthee?ciencyofinjectedcellscouldpossiblybehinderedbythemechanicaltrauma duetotheinjectionandtheirlowsurvivalinthehostileenvironment.Ithasindeedbeendemonstratedthatcellmortalitydue totheinjectionapproaches90%.Majorissuesstillneedtoberesolvedandbed-to-benchfollowupisparamounttofosterclinical implementations.Thetissueengineeringapproachthusconstitutesanattractivealternativesinceitprovidestheopportunityto deliveralargenumberofcellsthatarealreadyorganizedinanextracellularmatrix.Recentlaboratoryreportscon?rmedtheinter- estofthisapproachandalreadyencouragedafewgroupstoinvestigateitinclinicalstudies.Wediscusscurrentknowledgeregard- ingengineeredtissueformyocardialrepairorreplacementandinparticulartherecentimplementationofnanotechnological approaches. 1.Intro
