Methods:AconsecutivesampleofparentsofchildrenwithPDDsaged6to15wereapproached.TheMOS36-item Short-FormHealthSurvey(SF-36)wasusedtomeasuretheQOLoftheparentsbyeightsubscalesandtwosummary measures.Parents’personalityandmaritalrelationshipswereassessedwiththeNEOFiveFactorInventoryandthe IntimateBondMeasure,respectively.Wecharacterizedtheparents’SF-36profilesincomparisonwiththenational normativescoresandexploredvariableswhichcorrelatedwiththeirsummarymeasures. Results:Participantswere147mothersand122fathersof158childrenwithPDDs.Mothershadsignificantlylower scoresintheareasofRolePhysical(RP)Socialfunctioning(SF),Generalhealthperceptions(GH),Vitality(VT),Role emotional(RE)andMentalHealth(MH)thanthoseamongthegeneralfemalepopulation.Thematernalmental componentsummary(MCS)wasalsosignificantlylower,butmaternalphysicalcomponentsummary(PCS)and paternalPCSandMCSscoreswerenotlower.MaternalPCSandMCSscoreswerebothsignificantlyassociatedwith thehighCareandthelowControlscores,butregardingfathersonlythepaternalPCSscoresweresignificantly associatedwiththelowControlscores.MaternalPCSandMCSandpaternalMCSscoresweresignificantlyassociated withthehighAgreeablenessscoresandthelowNeuroticismscores.Multipleregressionshaveshownthat NeuroticismwassignificantlyrelatedtothelowMCSscoresofmothersandfathers.Next,Carewasrelatedto maternalhighPCS,andControlwasrelatedtomaternallowMCSandpaternallowPCS. Conclusions:ThemothersofchildrenwithPDDshadlowerQOLscoresthanthoseoftheJapaneseg
