Methods: A qualitative research was used and we conducted in-depth f坦白-to-face interviews with 20 Chinese paediatric nurses. Re咀ults: The evidence demonstrated that nurses role position , expectation, capability and behaviour in assessing postopemtive paediatric pain were influenced by many factors , including pain management education and policy, the relationship between nurses , doctors, children and their parents , and special clinical environment. The lack of detailed theoretical and practical support was the main barrier to initiate the professional strength of nurses contribution to the assessment of the postoperative pain for children and to reduce their pain. Conclusion: The current nursing educational curriculum and the administrative policy in pain assessment and management need to be re-evaluated about their relevance and accuracy according to nurs凶， opinions and needs.
