I I PAGE PAGE VI Abstract The translation mission is The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg by Mark Twain. The story happened in a town called Hadleyburg which was very well-known by its honesty. It mainly tells that a stranger went to Mrs. Richards’ home and left a sack of gold to express his gratitude to his benefactor. There were some citizens who were called themselves that benefactor, some of whom were principal. At last, they were laughed at. The novel consists of four chapters. There are more than 18000 words in the novel, which is translated by myself. The novel consists of four chapters, and the author chooses the first two chapters and the first half of the third chapter of the novel. In the process of translation, the author adopts Yan Fu’s translation principle of “Faithfulness, Expressiveness and Elegance” as a guidance. Faithfulness means that the versions must be coincident with the meanings from the originals, without distorting, omitting, increasing and decreasing. Expressiveness means that the versions must be clear and fluent, but not stick to the originals too much. Elegance means the versions must fit for the styles of the originals. What’s more, some other translation strategies are used. This paper consists of three parts, including the original, the translation and the translation report, which is made of five sections. The first section is the introduction of the translation mission, which makes a brief introduction of the source, the requirements of the translation, the original and the author. What’s more, the old version is analyzed and compared with the new one ,and The second section talks about the process of the whole translation, including the preparation, the procedure and the revision. In the preparation, the author studies the writer, the style, the background and language features and etc. Meanwhile, the author picks out the translation tools.
