It is used to darken skies, manage reflections, or suppress glare from the surface of lakes or sea. no filter polaroid filter Polarised light direction of motion direction of oscillation Normally, these waves oscillate in every plane that is at 90° to the direction of motion. Light which oscillates in only one plane is called plane polarised light. Electromagnetic waves (such as light) are transverse waves. This means that the plane of oscillation is at 90° to the direction of motion. polarised normal Polarisation Polaroid lenses On a sunny day, light reflecting from a water surface can cause glare and make it hard to see the fish. In 1938, Edwin Land developed the polarising lens. Today they are used in most sunglasses, as well as microscopes and LCD screens, but they were originally used to help with fishing! This light is already partly plane polarised by the water, so if it passes through a polarising filter, almost all of the light will be blocked. This is what Polaroid sunglasses are designed to do. What is Polaroid made of? Polaroid is a polarising filter made from plastic. The plastic consists of polymer chains that are aligned in parallel. Polarising filters are able to reduce the amount of light transmitted through them. The amount of light transmitted depends on the light’s direction of oscillation with referenc
