We will describe the nature of management and identify the four basic functions that constitute the management process. We will identify different types of managers likely to be found in an organization by level and area. We will describe the basic skills required of managers. We will explain the importance of strategic management and effective goal setting in organizational success. Teaching Tips: Ask the class to engage in the following way with each objective: Objective 1: Describe the nature of management and identify the four basic functions that constitute the management process. Please join with another student and list the four basic functions of management. We will share our answers with the class. Answers should include planning, leading, organizing, and controlling. Objective 2: Identify different types of managers likely to be found in an organization by level and area. Please remain in your teams from Objective 1. I would like you to give some examples of the different types of managers likely to be found in an organization by level and area. We will share our answers with the class. Answers will vary. They can include marketing manager, chief financial officer, chief executive officer, human resources manager, accounting manager, finance manager, operations manager, production manager, information technology manager, and others.
