Abstract With the acceleration of economic globalization, intercultural communication becomes moreand more frequent. Due to the cultural convention, people in different areas will encounter culturalconflicts in intercultural communication. This thesis takes the movie The Wedding Banquet as astudied object, describes the cultural differences on the basis of the vivid plots in gift-giving,toasting Culture and wedding culture with the way of analysis and comparison, and analyzes thecauses which lead to the cultural differences as well. However, this thesis points out the process ofreconcilability in the end. Through the study of the movie The Wedding Banquet, we may find thatthe cultural differences exist everywhere in our daily life, we should have a proper attitude towarddifferent cultures, neither accept everything nor refuse everything. Only in this way, can peoplecommunicate smoothly and develop harmoniously.
