With the development of the new rural construction, urban-rural gap narrowing, rural residents desire for modern life gradually be achieved. In new rural house construction, produced many imitate the appearance, layout, urban housing construction. Now, how it is handled in the new rural construction of traditional houses and modern conflicts of modern life, making homes better adapt to local customs, ada pting to residents living behavior and habits, to meet its growing needs, and the use of different types of resident preferences, building new houses with local characteristics is a problem worthy of careful study. Based on Dongting Lake plain region of North Hunan’s rural residential survey, on how to build a new rural housing, good study looked at meeting their needs. Through field mapping and survey, and on rural houses in the region were investigated. During the reconstruction of rural housing by building in the area is classified, from residential and general information, main space, space combinations at different times analysis compared residential living and residential space. Combining residential development proposed in the development of rural housing in the law and its future trend. Finally, in accordance with its law of development, trends, and problems existing in the present stage, propose appropriate solutions and design suggestion, hope on the northern part of the new rural house constructi on and renovation of some reference value.
