AbstractThis Abstract This report is a case study of a consecutive interpreting activity based on a self-organized interpreting task at School of Foreign Languages and Cultures of Ningxia University.Guided by Newmark’S communicative translation theory,the writer analyzes the application of communicative translation theory in her interpreting task and highlights her suggestions for the future interpreting work. The whole report consists of four parts;description of the interpreting task, preparations for the task,case analysis and practice summary.Firstly,the writer describes the background,features and aims of the task.She then introduces her preparations for the task,including the long—term learning of interpreting skills and the short-term preparations such as collecting the background information and establishing a glossary before the task. The core of the report is the case analysis.The writer gives a brief introduction to the communicative translation theory,and analyzes the application of the theory from three aspects lexical,syntactical and contextual levels.Bearing in mind the features of the interview -audience.centeredness,rich contents,loose sentence structure,dense information and long-period of talking,the writer puts her priority of the task on conveying the speaker’S intention and emotion by adopting such techniques as amplification, omission and restructuring sentences.The last part iS the conclusion,in which the writer shares her view that theory provides significant guidance for the interpreting task and improving language competence and note·taking skills as well as active participation in all types of interpreting practice are of great importance for a graduate student of interpreting.
