* (c) 2002 Invensys Systems, Inc. * Since InTouch 8 we have continued on our planned roadmap of integration of InTouch and the ArchestrA framework. 8.0 saw the introduction of integration into the new Industrial Application Server. 9.0 saw the introduction of graphical elements, SmartSymbols, which understand the ArchestrA architecture. Now, InTouch 10 brings that graphical integration closer still, with the introduction of ArchestrA Symbols and also the Integrated Development Environment. Each step of the way has seen more integration and corresponding efficiency improvements because of this. Let’s look at the graphical evolution a little closer before we start to dig into the IDE next… In the beginning, InTouch was an easy to use, graphical development package integrated with industrial automation elements which ‘lowered the bar’ to entry for users. However at first the graphical drawing capabilities were basic. Soon though, Symbols and Cells gave us grouping and resizing capabilities. Wizards introduced objects with intelligence, although a C programming environment was needed to extend basic wizards. SmartSymbols introduced intelligent graphic objects which were aware of ArchestrA object templates, and also did not need programming experience. Now, in InTouch 10 we introduce a new generation of symbols. We will show a lot of about these ArchestrA symbols later in the presentation. SmartSymbols can be directly imported into the new ArchestrA symbols. * (c) 2002 Invensys Systems, Inc. * * (c) 2002 Invensys Systems, Inc. * Whenever we release a newer version of InTouch, we determine the business needs which drive the feature set and product direction. In today’s complex manufacturing operations, there are several sets of stakeholders to consider. These we break down into three areas, Operations, Engineering and IT. Each have their own needs. To reduce the cost of maintaining applications across an enterprise, standardisation is essential. This not on
