The development of its versions, has aroused the great attention among scholars at home and abroad. Five versions—the first version The Lychee a n d M irror in Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty, The Lychee in Shunzhi period of Qing Dynasty, The Lychee in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, Cai Youbens oral version t4Chen SanM, and the East China Joint Performance The Romance o f Chen San. a n d Wu N iang—record the clear development track of this opera for more than 5 years. Such a complete and systematical record of operas version is rare in China. By analyzing the development of its version, people can see the endless meaning of its regional culture and the excellent opera art precipitated in history. It is the development and combination of secular origins, noble spirits and images of ocean that awaken the full and flexible dramatic tension of this “living fossil in the Song and Yuan Dynasties”.
